Following Arbury Conservatives campaign to save the Ashwell Community Bus, Sir Oliver has issued the following press release.
MP takes up case of Ashwell Community Bus
North Herts MP, Sir Oliver Heald, has taken up the concerns of Ashwell residents about the withdrawal of the Ashwell Community Bus (service 202) to and from Ashwell station. The operator, Landmark Coaches, has given notice on the 202 contract with the service finishing in mid-November.
Following representations from Sir Oliver, Herts County Council Chief Executive, John Wood, has confirmed that the County Council will be going out to tender for a contractor to continue with the service and that the future options for the service will be considered again after the end of the financial year.
Commenting, Sir Oliver said:
“I am delighted that the 202 contract is to continue for now. Ashwell Community Bus is very important to local people and the notice to terminate in mid-November was a blow. I will be pressing for a long term solution to keep the service into the future. Ashwell residents who value this service need to make sure that it is fully used so that there is a strong case when this is further reviewed.”
